I'm going to Amsterdam in a couple of months and for ID I was going to use my driving license.

Do they except this as a ID?

I don't really like the idea of carrying my passport round with me.

Huh?

It's ok for most things but you should carry a photocopy of your passport as well in case the police ask to check your ID. Under Dutch law you have to carry your national ID card or passport at all times.

Yes, a drivers license is accepted in coffeeshops.

To be certain, you can make a copy of your passport, because in the Netherlands you must be able to show your passport. If you have a copy and your drivers license I guess you will not encounter problems.

License as ID is sufficient in most cases. Not travelling in to the country.
