Question:
Is this an appropriate packing list?
2010-10-15 08:28:44 UTC
So im travelling to Europe, mainly Holland, soon and this is my 'clothing only list', not including jewellery, or makeup, hair ect. I thought i would choose clothing for approxiamtely 2 1/2 weeks, because i have accsess to a washing machine so ican wash clothing probably every week 9i will wash half one week, half the next). Also i have included lots of cardigans and different coloured stockings so i can mix and match my outfits (im a girl by the way haha, incase you hadnt noticed). I know it may seem to be a lot but i will be attending school so i need a few different things to wear that will be appropriate for school (including gym) but i still lvoe being fashionable! Also, i plan to wear singlets and stocking under pants and shirts (layering!!) to keep warm as it the forecast is from 8 degrees to below 0.

I cant take very much clothing, well noti asm uch as i would have liked, also because i only have one suitcase to fit all clothing and school things and anything else i need. I will have the opportunity to go shopping there too (to buy some good boots probably, and a coat or two and a jumper probably.) If anyone from Holland can tell me whther this will be warm enough and what the fashion is for a 14 year old girl at the moment that would help alot! Also i will be there for about 4 months, so this has to last me quite a while! Any packing tips and quantity tips would be much appreciated!! Thanky :P

Hi

I think it's a great list and I think its ok for a 14 year old girl (especially the ugg boots, they all have those) but maybe your suitcase will be too heavy. In that case I wouldn't bring all that thermal stuff. You are leaving in less then two weeks and it will not be extremely cold here by that time. It will be around 10 degrees here, maybe a little colder. (and like you said, you can wear stockings under your pants) So you don't need that thermal stuff yet and by the time it starts freezing you will be used to the weather. It can get cold in february but usually no snow for a long time. Maybe just a few days (last year really was an exception).

Also you say you are bringing sandals. You don't need them here until summer. Maybe you can bring a pair of ballet flats instead, you can wear them with stockings.

You don't need shorts either, except if you want to use them for gym class but most kids don't wear shorts in gym class. (at my old school anyway)

Maybe you want to bring a swimsuit? You can't go to the beach in the winter but there are lots of pools (at least here in Amsterdam) And sometimes I went swimming with school, instead of regular gym class.

Don't you want to bring some sneakers like nike or converse or vans? You only bring boots but sneaker can be really comfortable. Most 14 year old girls here wear ugg boots or sneakers.

You also need a bag to cary your school books. Most girls don't use a backpack, they have shoulder bags or a cute tote.

Have fun on your trip

Zara; normally I wouldn't dream of answering this sort of question as it's far too difficult, and technical for me :o) but having read through your list, I'm wondering just how big this one suitcase is that you are taking. Plus the fact that you plan 'quote' (to buy some good boots probably, and a coat or two and a jumper probably.)

As Orla points out there is a limit to the weight of baggage you can take on an aircraft, so unless your suitcase is going freight, you have far too much. One piece of advice I have heard many times is 'lay out your clothing and money you are planning to take, then half the clothing and double the money'

Anyway, whatever you do. Enjoy your travels.

If you have to travel around, you will have to cut down to one suitcase you can easily lift above your head, knowing 14 year old girls, this will be about 20 pound/10 kilo max.

Wear jeans, bring 3 pair, and one pair of skirts.

2 sweaters and enough T-shirts for a week, and one nice shirt for church or parties.

Bring one pair of shoes besides the one you wear when traveling, and no more than for one week socks and forget stockings.

One set of termal long underwear will be good, but no need to overdo there either.

You are 14, traveling and not a show horse for a clothing firm.

When do you intend to travel? And from which climate do you come?

I don't know anyone who'd wear thermals before the winter and even then it's usually only people who spend a lot of time outdoors.

PErhaps cutdown a bit on the shirts, if you're not too messy and you can wash. Same for the cardis

You do realise that there are weight restrictions on the airlines?

I would find out how much you can bring without having to pay extra, and cut this lot back. You can always do a second wash in the week.
