The easiest way to visit Keukenhof is Connexxion’s all-in Combiticket. This is a return bus ticket to Keukenhof and an entrance ticket to Keukenhof. By showing your Combi-ticket you can enter Keukenhof directly.

You can take the train from Amsterdam Central to Schiphol, then from Schiphol the Combi ticket for 20 Euro (bus 58). Or (cheaper) take from Amsterdam Leidse Plein (Combiticket 23 euro) the bus (197 or 370) to Schiphol, change at Schiphol to 58 then to Keukenhof. You can buy tickets at Central Station and at the VVV at Leidseplein.

From Leiden is not wrong, but a bit longer. However Leiden is a nice city indeed.

Take the train to Leiden. When you get to the station, you can buy tickets for Keukenhof at the Travelex exchange just inside the main entrance of the station. The ticket (20 euro) is good for round trip transportation and entrance to the garden. The bus is #54 - it will be to the right as you exit the station. The stop is in the right hand bus lane. You can also just go to Schiphol airport and get the #58 bus from there. I prefer Leiden for a couple of reasons. There's an earlier bus (7:52 am on weekends), and Leiden is a nice city to walk around in. There are a couple of nice windmills close to the station. If you go that way, take the train that goes through Haarlem on the way back to Amsterdam. It goes past a lot more bulb fields than the train through Schiphol.

I've been to the garden twice this year and am going back again this weekend.
